Motion Design

Study context

Traditional motion design – i.e. title sequences such as intros for blockbuster series – has produced style-defining media and pop-culture icons. Today, motion design is a key element in all entertainment, education and information formats: from design-based stories for communicating knowledge to new marketing and advertising content online. Apps and games also use motion design as an integral component of the user experience (UX). Be it for VR applications, concert stages, trade fair stands or facade projections – motion design is now everywhere you turn.

Overview of the curriculum

Motion design is an international professional profile in the film industry, on the point of intersection between various creative disciplines such as graphic design, animation, film-making, visual effects, sound design and music composition. If you would like to study Motion Design, you should have broad interests and be prepared to develop expertise in a range of fields.

The foundation of the study course is the work with text (typography and its animation). In addition, there is also the design of graphics as 2D/3D animations and real images, as well as sound. The field of motion design therefore stands on four pillars: typography, graphics, image and sound.

What needs to be conveyed, and for whom is the message intended? On the course, you learn not only how to answer these questions conceptually, but also to design your message on a cross-platform basis for a website, a game, a trade fair stand, social media or a commercial. The ideal prerequisites for leading a team or establishing your own agency.
