Film montage is the only new art form that the twentieth century has produced.
The film industry is constantly changing, developing and spawning new forms and genres. Our job is to prepare you for that. The Editing curriculum at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg places great emphasis on teaching editing competencies in technical, aesthetic and social terms. At the same time, the course provides students with comprehensive technical training in post-production through a variety of projects.
Film editing is a subject you learn through theory and practice. The interdisciplinary teaching combines lectures, seminars and workshops. In “a school of seeing and feeling”, you will experience the power of images and sequences for enhancing your emotional intelligence with knowledge. You will be empowered to take a position, to act ethically, and to communicate and reason effectively with directors, clients, editors and producers.
On the practical side, you are integrated into the entire workflow – from project preparation and film editing to the final approval. You take on editing responsibilities in joint film projects with your fellow students from the directing departments.
The extensive range of projects from the various departments (Series, Advertising, Documentary Film, Journalistic Film, Animation) allows you to gain far-reaching experience in the field of Editing across the entire spectrum of practical tasks. Where else do you get the chance to work on so many different projects, with professional-level technical equipment and with so many different lecturers from the industry.
Here you can download specific information, such as the admission requirements and the required work samples for the Editing study course, as well as a step-by-step instruction for the online application portal of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
