To produce excellent film music, you need good communication and you need to develop your own personal film music language.
On the Film Music course, you develop your musical and compositional skills to specialise in the extensive field of music for the media. That is done through the study of theoretical aspects, but also in large part through practice, and you will be composing music for numerous films over the course of your studies. We help you to achieve your goal of becoming a film music composer and, by developing your personal film music language, to be competitive on the international market.
Your studies involve a lot of learning by doing – you’ll be making music for films from the very beginning.
The relevant theory is always imparted through project-related activities: film composition, film dramaturgy, harmony, TV scoring, film music orchestration, conducting, music law, pop producing, artistic film music practice and much more.
On our Film Music course, classes and projects are taught and led exclusively by experts with real-world experience. Our carefully selected, international team of (guest) lecturers are company directors and decision-makers from all areas of media music, as well as composers and orchestrators for film, TV and games.
The training we provide gives you priceless practical opportunities, the like of which you’ll find only at the Filmakademie: recording with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra and with a small and a big band, an orchestra workshop, and a sound studio in which you can record as much music as you like. Ideal preparation giving you excellent career prospects in the film industry. There are also unique opportunities on campus to develop a valuable network with your fellow students, from which you will continue to benefit well after you complete your studies.
